DeRuyter 10 minutes
Quickest place to buy groceries and gas. Check out the Red and White Cafe for great breads and desserts, as well as live music on weekends. Stop in at Sal’s for a pizza or Centro’s for a full meal. Don’t miss the Memorial Day Parade in May or the carnival rides and chicken barbeque at the annual DeRuyter Fireman’s Fair in August. There are always pancake breakfasts going on somewhere. The Madison County historical society website includes a fascinating copy of a ca.1900 document with a wealth of information about the early days of the DeRuyter community and interesting descriptions of the surrounding landscape. Cincinnatus 15 minutes
Another place for groceries and gas, plus a wonderful library. Check out the Farmers Market and watch for roadside stands with fresh picked corn in the summer. The Knickerbocker Golf Course is a bargain! There are several fun annual events including an antique car show and Fourth of July celebration, a Corn Festival in September, a Children's Christmas in early December with horse-drawn sleigh rides , and a Vaudeville Review at Heritage Hall in the fall for local talent to spotlight their gifts of music and comedy. Cincinnatus is also home to the lovely Otselic River, named for the Native American word for 'wild plum.' The river corridor is a wildlife refuge that offers great bird watching and blue-ribbon trout fishing along its shores.

Cazenovia 20 minutes
Lakeside community founded by John Lincklaen in 1793. You'll see beautiful Greek Revival, Gothic, and Victorian architecture all within easy walking distance along the main street. Lots of shops and plenty of restaurants for casual or fine dining. Fourth of July Fireworks over the lake are a big hit! Summertime concerts in the park. The Cazenovia Village website is definitely worth a look.

Cortland 30 minutes
A real town with plenty of stores for whatever you need. Visit the official Cortland community website for ideas. You can tour several Victorian era mansions like the 1890 House Museum. The Dairy Parade in June brings big crowds! On the road into Cortland, you’ll pass the Country Music Park which features several concerts weekly, including some big name artists. Or spend an evening at the weekly summertime Concerts in the Park.

Binghamton 45 minutes
City with everything from a zoo to a minor league baseball team. Home of the world's largest collection of antique carousels – and they’re all free to ride! For more, take a look at the Binghamton Visitor Center.

Syracuse 45 minutes
Try the Mid-Lakes Navigation cruises or spend a day at the Museum of Science and Technology. Learn about the Erie Canal. Stop in at the Syracuse Jazz Festival.

Ithaca 55 minutes
Check out the Farmers Market, antiques, art galleries, hands-on science museum, and Cornell University. Have lunch at the Moosewood Restaurant, a collectively owned business acclaimed as a driving force in creative vegetarian cooking since 1973. Scenic drive takes you to the Cayuga Lake wine trail vineyards for tours and tastings.
